Helene qualified as a primary school teacher in 1979 and taught all age groups from Year 2 to Year 6 over 12 years as a class teacher, six years in the Netherlands and six years in the UK. She qualified as a dyslexia specialist in 1997 and practiced as a private specialist teacher and taught spelling to groups of adults at Greenwich Community College. |
When her children started school she began working as an individual support teacher for the Royal Borough of Greenwich, which led her to work for STEPS, Support Service for Education in Primary Schools from 2011 as a deputy leader and in 2017 as service leader. Helene delivered the OCR Level 5 and 7 Diploma courses in dyslexia for 7 years. | Her passion is teaching children with specific learning difficulties reading, spelling, mathematics and handwriting. The children always challenge her to discover and learn more about how they learn best. Learning so much about the subjects that she teaches and the resources and tools that help learning, is how she developed into an experienced practitioner. However it is always the individual learner who leads the way. |
